02_ The 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion emphasises diversity

  • The Director General of Commerce, Jordi Torrades Aladren, the Director of the Trade, Crafts and Fashion Consortium of Catalonia, Agnès Russiñol Amat, and the President of the Catalan Women’s Institute, Meritxell Benedí Altés, have presented the new features of this year’s edition
  • 080 Barcelona Fashion is committed to the diversity of bodies, sizes, functions and gender, while emphasising sustainability and circularity
  • This edition features an inclusive fashion show which has been organised together with the Catalan Women’s Institute with the aim of raising awareness of body neutrality and functional diversity

Wednesday, 24 April 2023.— This year, 080 Barcelona Fashion claims its commitment to sustainability and circularity, while emphasising diversity in terms of bodies, sizes, functions and gender. The Director General of Commerce, Jordi Torrades Aladren, and the Director of the Trade, Crafts and Fashion Consortium of Catalonia (CCAM), Agnès Russiñol Amat, explained the above during the press conference, where the main new features and contents of the 31st edition of the Catalan fashion week were presented. They were accompanied at the event by the President of the Catalan Women’s Institute (ICD), Meritxell Benedí Altés.

In this edition, the commitment to diversity will permeate both the casting stage, based on inclusion, diversity and multiculturalism, and the brands, as they are committed to the values of 080 Barcelona Fashion and aware of them. Thus, for the first time in the history of 080 Barcelona Fashion, the CCAM and the ICD will carry out an action to raise awareness about body neutrality and functional diversity, i.e. an inclusive fashion show through the Free Form Style brand. This activity is part of the Action Plan promoted by the Government through the ICD to fight aesthetic pressure in 2023-2026, as explained by Meritxell Benedí Altés, the President of the Catalan Women’s Institute.

In addition to diversity, 080 Barcelona Fashion is an event devoted to sustainability and circularity, without forgetting other challenges of the platform, such as internationalisation, the digital transformation of brands, innovation and creativity. In an ongoing dialogue with designers and fashion brands, the collections shown at the 080 editions increasingly incorporate this perspective. Recycled, sustainable fabrics and timeless collections are just a few examples of what will be seen in the creative proposals of this year’s edition.

03_ The 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion celebrates its first day with five labels that have presented their proposals based on diversity, sustainability and innovation

  • SIMORRA, THE ARTELIER and LARETTA opened the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion

Tuesday, 2 May 2023 — 080 Barcelona Fashion, which is organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Regional Government of Catalonia), opens its 31st edition with proposals by SIMORRA, THE ARTELIER, LARETTA, BIELO_OSCARLEON and ESCORPION, which are the first brands to show their proposals for the coming season. Once again, the venue for Barcelona Fashion Week has been the historical Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site.
SIMORRA has kicked off Barcelona Fashion Week. The label was established in Catalonia more than 40 years ago and envisages avant-garde design as a means of expression and creative freedom by playing with materials.
This philosophy comes to the fore in its new collection “IN-TOUCH”, which is designed from embroidered cottons, garments that are entirely made with macrame crafts for dresses or with appliques that are combined with other materials. Tweeds with fresh colours and warm textures that transport you to the upholsteries used in pieces of furniture in summer country homes. Jacquards that draw embossed lines that crisscross and remind us of the white summertime bedspreads that kept you warm in the early mornings. Geometric guipures that copy the hydraulic tiles used on terraces and patios that are protected from the heat. A collection that invites us to connect through our hands with our memories’ tactile landscapes.

For its part, the brand specialising in timeless, genderless and mostly sustainable prints, THE ARTELIER was the second label to walk down the catwalk. A brand without gender or barriers and timeless which has presented a collection inspired by time and how it has an impact on our lives.
“Retiens la nuit” by designer Alba Ayza urges us to reflect on how intangible and valuable time is and how we all experience it in different ways. Garments that convey the concept of the passage of time through shapes that seem to come apart.

LARETTA is a brand that seeks to create an atmosphere where tradition and modernity coexist. It premieres in this edition to present “ACTA EST FABULA”, a collection that is featuring the work “Death and Life” by Gustav Klimt as its starting premise. A series of reflections that are apparently far removed from each other, such as life and death, have led designer Lara Serrano to create a collection with great
contrasts in terms of colour, textures and volumes.

At this great fashion event, the second last label to walk down the catwalk was BIELO_OSCARLEON and its collection “Permanecer o evolucionar” (Remain or evolve). The label is focused on strict experimentation with inventive knitting techniques, hence resulting in unusual structures which are capable of transforming ideas into unimaginable shapes and volumes.

A collection highlighting colour combinations and pattern experimentations with luxury knitwear. Genderless garments that are imbued with Eastern and Western techniques which give rise to surprising materials, hence displaying the brand’s tradition and innovation.

ESCORPION, a repeat Catalan brand at 080 Barcelona Fashion, closed the first day of this 31st edition. The label was established in 1929 and has become a benchmark in the international knitwear sector, while focusing on sustainability through environmentally responsible processes.

Paying tribute to the brand’s flagship product, the sweater, ESCORPION presents “Un jersey ESCORPION” (An ESCORPION Sweater), a collection that is committed to avant-garde and is able to reinterpret its signature work. It is made up of garments that are imbued with the lessons of the past and apply them to the present and the future, while retrieving iconic shapes and volumes. Subtle and delicate yarns that draw elegant and perfect silhouettes, where natural shades prevail, as well as azure, petal and rosewood, which intermingle with grey. A capsule collection that conveys the essence of ESCORPION.

Thus, the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion has unveiled the new trends in a unique atmosphere, where creativity and the brands’ essence have been at the fore.

04_ 080 Barcelona Fashion holds its third day of fashion shows with introspective, innovative fashion proposals in support of diversity

  • COMPTE SPAIN, with a collection inspired by dreams, and PAOLO LEDUC, with a transgressive and artisanal proposal, made their début at 080 Barcelona Fashion
  • ANEL YAOS, OUTSIDERS DIVISION, THE LABEL EDITION and CUSTO BARCELONA were next to walk down the catwalk with proposals in which innovation and creativity played a leading role
  • DOMINNICO ended the day highlighting diversity in the casting and in its staging and creative proposal

Thursday, 04 May 2023 — 080 Barcelona Fashion started its third day of fashion shows with proposals by the labels COMPTE SPAIN, PAOLO LEDUC, ANEL YAOS, OUTSIDERS DIVISION, THE LABEL EDITION, CUSTO and DOMINNICO at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site.

COMPTE SPAIN was the first to walk down the catwalk on the third day of Catalan fashion week. The label, created by Santiago Mozas, presented its collection “Trauma”, inspired by the climax of dreams and nightmares.

The collection includes strong looks that take the magical surrealism of pictorial art as a reference and, more particularly, the work of Spanish artist Remedios Varó, who wanted to show the unreal or strange as a common, everyday thing, tearing down the limits of reality, and the work of Margaret Modlin and the way in which horror is reflected in it.

PAOLO LEDUC, a firm that is making its début at 080 Barcelona Fashion, is inspired by the origins of the designer: his Spanish roots that feed from the more baroque essence and from excess, and his French roots that combine the more classic side and artisanal work.

The designer, who painted walls, pieces of wood, school desks and clothes from childhood through to adolescence, presents “Entre sol y sombra”, a collection that is the reflection of his own persona. Stitched and painted works that distort human silhouettes and the classic forms of tailoring, with deconstructed pieces, the use of digital prints with the “trompe-l’oeil” technique, and the shaping of fabrics. It is inspired
by the night, with hints of the punk rock culture and cinema.

080 Barcelona Fashion also hosted the proposal by ANEL YAOS, a label whose collections speak of his inner world and the way his generation feels. He is a benchmark in floral and geometric prints from the 70s and 80s, the volumes and ornaments of 18th century painting and the overlays of the 90s.

He presented “DEEP ”, a collection made up of 22 looks in which the world of romance, the 70s and 80s, nomads, evolution, and the marginal are present. It reflects the flow of light fabrics such as silks, gauzes and cotton against the forcefulness of velvet and neoprene, from the perspective of a fascinating conversation between prints and colours that fit perfectly together. The overlays, characteristic of Anel Yaos’ styling, are simplified to the point of becoming minimalistic.

OUTSIDERS DIVISION was the second to walk down the catwalk. A transgressor of reality and feelings under the slogan “la bellesa de l’error”, David Méndez, the label’s creator, takes us to worlds of dreamlike fantasy.

A dress with dalmatians, sweaters made of organic cotton, crocheted, leopard and tartan pieces, a group of oil-painted bears, furry coats, coloured soles on handmade shoes, a carrot-shaped hat and one with yellow antennae, a portrait of cats and dogs printed on a dress, cardigans and gingham shirts, striped rugby shirts, a green meadow sewn onto a quilted anorak…are just some of the creations presented.

THE LABEL EDITION, a label with 100% digital DNA, presented M.O.T.L.E.Y, a collection full of pieces that can be combined together, letting the creativity and unique style of each one fly, and offering the chance to choose how and when to wear each piece.

Subtlety plays a leading role in the collection, with special emphasis on colours, particularly bright colours, and modularity. They have chosen a bright colour palette that particularly runs through different shades of pink, as well as oranges, reds, greens and yellows. Darker shades are also present as a counterpoint, such as blue and black.

Volumes, especially on the sleeves, form part of the label’s DNA, and are undoubtedly back in this collection. Very airy pieces and volatile textures are proposed, which are seen in crinkle and different cottons, as well as denim.

A regular at 080 Barcelona Fashion is CUSTO BARCELONA, a label with a consolidated image in which innovation and creativity form the basis of a style characterised by the use of graphics and colour, which has become an icon.

Custo Barcelona has presented a new collection in which volumes and lines are the parameters that, along with the fusion of the materials chosen, result in the sought-after innovation. Oversized quilted anoraks with a metallic appearance with very soft fabrics, along with dresses with openings, asymmetries and architecture yet to be defined play a leading role in this collection. Oversized trousers and miniskirts were also present, combined with experimental tops in an attempt to stir emotion in women who like to
play it safe.

Colour was reinforced to create a winter proposal without forgetting the seductive metallic and shiny tones that make colour the star of the show, even in winter.

DOMINNICO was responsible for ending the day. The firm, characterised by the premise of slow fashion, and the diversity, innovation and sustainability of its processes, presented its new collection “DILDOM FALL 23”.

A collection that arose from the need to continue creating an idea of union and inclusive community beyond fashion. This proposal is made up of 25 looks in which pieces that are already part of the label’s identity are meshed together to pave the way for inspiration that looks to art trends such as Marcel Duchamp’s dadaism; the conceptual art of brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman; the contemporary artist Anna Uddemberg; the designer of objects Anthony Redmile or the provocative aesthetics of The Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick and the dystopian novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
Thus ends the third day of 080 Barcelona Fashion, which tomorrow will host the last group of proposals for the 31st edition.

Sponsors and contributing firms of the 31st 080 Barcelona Fashion Beauty trends stole the show on the penultimate day of the fashion week. Kevin Murphy offered looks inspired by rock & roll and neutrals mixed with grunge, and Custo showed off glamorously silky, straight hair. Dominnico went for a strong,
daring wet look, decorated with different colours. Make-up trends by MAC Cosmetics include looks inspired by the 60s, hyper-realism on the skin, a mother-of-pearl metallic sheen to skins and even the use of bright colours such as fuchsias, reds and blues on nails, cheekbones, and lips. Finally, Thuya Professional Line offered manicures in bright and colourful shades and also in extreme, square and stiletto shapes.

In this edition, the event is supported by 4 sponsoring brands and 12 collaborators.

The sponsoring brands are Kevin Murphy (official hairdresser), MAC Cosmetics (official make-up), Moco Museum (official cultural contents) and Nobu Hotel Barcelona (official hotel). 05_ Inclusive fashion takes centre stage on the last day of 080 Barcelona Fashion

  • Free Form Style has opened the last day of the Barcelona fashion week with a proposal that confers dignity upon all types of bodies
  • RITA ROW, REVELIGION, HABEY CLUB, LOLA CASADEMUNT BY MAITE, EÑAUT and YOLANCRIS were the labels in charge of closing the 31st edition

Friday, 5 May 2023 — 080 Barcelona Fashion, which is organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Regional Government of Catalonia), celebrates the last day of its 31st edition with proposals by FREE FORM STYLE, RITA ROW, REVELIGION, HABEY CLUB, LOLA CASADEMUNT BY MAITE, EÑAUT and YOLANCRIS. A closing that puts an end to an incredible edition marked by creativity, reflection and memories.

The unique Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, a space that has become Barcelona’s catwalk for the last week, has opened its doors one more day to celebrate the last fashion shows of the Catalan fashion week.

The first label of the day was Free Form Style, the project founded by Marina Vergés and Carolina Asensio, which became the pioneering brand in designing clothes for people with disabilities, where comfort is not incompatible with elegance.

On this occasion, they have presented “Just a Perfect Day”, a collection based on the principles of English tailoring fused with the punk and new romantic movements, which seek to create designs without barriers. A fashion that confers dignity upon all types of bodies and that seeks to normalise physical diversity with difficulties in dressing and mobility through functional and comfortable garments.

RITA ROW, a national label that avoids fast fashion and is committed to conscious fashion, celebrates its 10th anniversary since Imma and Xènia decided to embark on the path of sustainable fashion.

The “West Road” collection plays with all kinds of textures, volumes, fabrics and cuts with a Western influence. Kitsch combinations with a country touch that result in elegant, comfortable and modern combinations; where organic cotton fabrics, premium denim, Italian yarns, virgin wool, cashmere and recycled fibres abound. A journey through the mountains of the west coast, where each garment has evolved on its path to a selected fabric and shape. Following the “West Road”, so that the person wearing that garment grows, develops and feels comfortable with the values the brand embodies.

After walking down the catwalks in Madrid and London, the label REVELIGION opts for 080 Barcelona Fashion due to its international flair to introduce the brand to other markets.

It has presented “Vandal”, a collection inspired by urban art, street style, fashion as a form of expression, street tribes and graffiti.

HABEY CLUB is presented once again on the catwalk of the industry’s most important event in Catalonia. The brand stands for the concepts of the review of traditional crafts and techniques, the analysis of trends and their durability, as well as the use of recycled or natural fibres. With inspirations that arise from art, cinema, photography or true stories that go beyond fiction and are transferred to its collections through prints, colour combinations, embroidery and styling.

The “Perspective” collection speaks of the passage of time through the prism of experience. As you get older and gain experience, you become more aware of and closer to reality. This point in the collection relates to hyperrealism in art through figures that take on a 3D aspect in the actual garments.

The Barcelona fashion week also includes the new collection by LOLA CASADEMUNT BY MAITE, a label that was established 40 years ago.

The proposal for next season is called “Acid Urban”, a fashion statement pleading that a modern and eclectic style still prevails in the big cities. Total looks are embodied by volumes, such as dresses, jumpsuits, suits, skirts, jackets and hoodies, that are rich in textures and materials, such as technical fabrics, brocades, jacquard, tweeds, gemstones and transparencies. All of the above in a full black palette as a base, which combines and contrasts with neon yellow and pink, hence bringing a street collection to life in which accessories are once again highly present in the form of country boots and brocade bags in the same tone, as well as acid-coloured caps.

EÑAUT, a brand that was created by the designer born in Gipuzkoa in September 2018, the year in which he won the REC.0/080 Barcelona Fashion contest for best designer, presents a collection that invites us to reflect.

The “Vulturno” collection wants to raise awareness of climate change, where temperatures will be the hottest and coldest to date, depending on the time of year. The current temperature is set to rise by up to 1.2°C, which is a more serious situation and requires even more urgent action. Furthermore, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), there is a 20% probability that we will exceed 1.5 °C by 2024. This would be a catastrophe for the global ecosystem, with the extinction of many species of plants and animals, and the entire disappearance of the coral reefs.

YOLANCRIS was the brand to close the day of the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion. With a boho style and a pioneer in the bridal sector, it presents “Black Gofrado”.

YOLANCRIS was the label to close the day and the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion. With a boho style and a pioneer in the bridal sector, it presents “Black Gofrado”.

This collection has been designed by adapting the embossing technique in different noble fabrics, such as silk taffeta or satin, to create and play with the maximum volumes these fabrics afford us, together with the elegance of the 50s and the most purist structures of those years in terms of patterns. This results in an evening collection that is elegant and always timeless.

This fashion show was the closing of the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion. For four days, this edition has brought together fashion professionals and design lovers who have wanted to show the trends that will mark the next season in the idyllic setting of the city of Barcelona.

Sponsors and collaborators of the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion

The beauty trends are still present on the last day of this edition. Thanks to Kevin Murphy we saw music-inspired looks with curls, voluminous fringes and wet looks, whereas Yolancris showed a ponytail with a braided knot. Reveligion showed an updo look with colourful tips that takes us back to the 2000s. The make-up trends by MAC Cosmetics went from natural looks, where matte and wet skins coexist, with pearly colours in lavender, washed blues and pinks, to the use of metallic colours, especially silver, rose gold and liquid gold, which seem to merge on the eyelids. Finally, Thuya Professional Line carried out simple manicures but with contrasts, such as French manicure with black, fuchsia and natural shades that let the outfit take centre stage.

In this edition, the event is supported by 4 sponsoring brands and 12 collaborators.
