SURKANA

HUIPIL

HUIPIL draws inspiration from Mexico and from a garment steeped in history. Passed down through generations by Indigenous communities, the huipil represents far more than a piece of clothing: it is identity, memory and, in many contexts, a form of resistance and female empowerment.

This world of references becomes the connecting thread of a collection in which Surkana reinterprets embroidery, geometric motifs, textures and artisanal codes through its own creative language.

The palette combines natural tones with vivid reds, blues and greens, while fluid silhouettes and expressive prints create a collection rich in colour and contrast.

Rather than reproducing a tradition, HUIPIL seeks to approach it through observation and respect.

The collection explores travel as a form of learning and craftsmanship as living memory. A dialogue between past and present, between Mexico and Barcelona, transformed through Surkana’s creative universe.

SURKANA was born in Barcelona more than twenty years ago as the natural evolution of a project inspired by travel, cultural exchange and creativity as a form of expression. From the very beginning, the brand has built its own distinctive universe: contemporary, approachable and instantly recognisable for its use of colour and prints.

Symbols, illustrations and multicultural references are reinterpreted in every collection to create pieces with personality, capable of telling stories and connecting with the people who wear them. For SURKANA, travelling means observing, discovering and allowing yourself to be transformed.

This approach to fashion is also rooted in a respect for nature and the environment. That is why the brand prioritises more environmentally responsible materials and fabrics, while incorporating lower-impact criteria into the development of its collections, moving towards a more conscious and responsible way of creating.

Since 2017, the creative direction has been led by Piedad Lara, Pi. Her background in fashion, art and forestry engineering shapes a sensibility where creativity, nature, travel and craftsmanship come together. After years of developing womenswear collections, she combines in-depth product knowledge with a commercial vision to create proposals that are true to SURKANA’s identity, designed to inspire, connect and accompany the women who wear them.

Because what truly matters is not only the destination, but everything we learn, feel and share along the way.
