Chapter 6
Chapter 6 explores contemporary migration and the material narratives that emerge through displacement. In a global landscape shaped by social, political and climate upheaval, those who migrate are often forced to compress their lives into a handful of essential belongings. Among them, clothing becomes one of the last refuges of identity, memory and belonging.
The collection is born from a simple question:
What remains when everything else has been left behind?
Starting from the idea of the basic garment as personal heritage, Chapter 6 reinterprets wardrobe essentials through a research-driven exploration of materiality. Experimental textile innovation processes have enabled the development of bio-based textiles derived from natural resources, creating new surfaces that establish a dialogue between technology, sustainability and craftsmanship.
Materials become the collection’s primary language. Organic textures, cellular structures and volumes inspired by natural growth create an imaginary world in which garments appear to evolve, adapt and transform, mirroring the experience of those who cross borders and cultures in search of a new beginning.
The silhouettes oscillate between protection and vulnerability. Enveloping layers, weathered surfaces and forms reminiscent of living organisms reflect the ongoing negotiation between rootedness and movement.
Each look becomes an emotional archive, preserving memories, experiences and traces of the places travelled.
Javier Aparici is a fashion designer based between Madrid and London. He graduated summa cum laude in both Business Administration and Law. Before pursuing fashion full-time, he built his career across multinational corporations, investment banking, and management consulting. Driven by a lifelong passion for fashion, he left the corporate world to independently develop his first collection. Its success led to collaborations with several fashion houses in Paris and London.
In 2020, he founded SOHUMAN, a fashion label recognised for its commitment to innovation and sustainability. Among the brand’s major milestones was its inclusion in the official London Fashion Week schedule. Following the label’s debut runway show, Aparici was invited to open the official London Fashion Week calendar the following season at just 27 years old, becoming the youngest designer in history to achieve this distinction.
His career is also closely connected to contemporary art. He created the “El Arte Con” movement, a project that raised more than €100,000 for those affected by the DANA floods in Valencia.
He has collaborated with leading cultural institutions including ARCO, serving as the official designer of Spain’s contemporary art fair in 2024, and the Museo Reina Sofía.
His designs have been worn by international figures such as Kate Moss, Miranda Kerr, Noah Schnapp and Rossy de Palma. He has also delivered lectures at prestigious institutions including IE, EOI, CEOE, Taschen, the Museo del Traje, Ateneo de Madrid and the London School of Arts, while teaching at universities in both Spain and the United Kingdom.
