The Art of Loss explores grief and the relationship between art, fashion and death. Inspired by the work of Egon Schiele, this collection encompasses the emotional intensity associated with grief, through silhouettes experimentation. Following Schiele’s approach, which uses bodily distortion as a metaphor for the psychological state of the people he portrays, these garments seek to express the trauma of loss by creating avant-garde silhouettes that do without traditional cuts.
This collection analyses the duality of creation and destruction. Based on techniques of pattern deconstruction and sabotage of finishing, these garments challenge classical notions of beauty and femininity, while expressing all the rage and emotional load. The collection also looks into the connection between fashion and death, drawing on Giacomo Leopardi’s idea that fashion and death share a common nature: ongoing change. Both are a constant memento mori, reminding us that our existence is fleeting.
The Art of Loss provides a timeless alternative to today’s fast-paced trends. This emotionally charged collection aims to be a tribute by using experimental cuts and draped geometrics. Its garments are made from elegant and unusual fabrics, while seeking to play with luxury and its sabotage, hence creating a new concept of beauty.
