DAVID CATALAN

Assembled

“Assembled” approaches winter dressing as construction. The collection takes its point of departure from the structural logic of traditional patchwork blankets, not as decoration, but as method. Joining, reinforcing, and layering become acts of design.

Garments are built through composition. Panels intersect across tailoring and denim, leather meets wool, and surfaces are arranged with graphic precision. Seams trace deliberate lines across the body, turning assembly into visual language. The result is neither nostalgic nor ornamental, but controlled and architectural.

Silhouettes are grounded and substantial. Volume is held with intention. Outerwear frames the body with structure, while trousers fall wide and weighted. Layering is not excess but system, allowing pieces to interlock and adapt. The palette remains restrained, moving through brown, camel, bordeaux, marine, and grey, emphasizing depth and texture over embellishment.

In Assembled, strength comes from composition. Each garment stands alone, yet gains clarity when combined. Winter is approached not as styling, but as structure.

David Catalán, Spanish designer based in Porto and the founder of his eponymous label, established in 2014. Over the past decade he has developed a defined position within contemporary menswear, shaped by structure, cultural awareness, and a precise approach to construction.

Across his collections, classic menswear staples are reinterpreted through oversized proportions, technical fabrics, and layered compositions. Blazers, outerwear, knitwear, and utility elements coexist in a visual language that balances sharp lines with functional ease.

Living and working in Portugal has informed several of his collections. At times, Catalán draws from his immediate surroundings and from local traditions, translating these references into contemporary garments. Rather than reproducing heritage codes, he reframes them through silhouette, fabrication, and detail, allowing cultural memory to surface within a modern context.

After receiving the Fashion Talent award at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid in 2014, his work gained international visibility. Since then, he has presented consistently across major European platforms, including Milan Fashion Week and Portugal Fashion, consolidating his presence within the international fashion calendar.

Working closely with Portuguese manufacturing, Catalán remains directly involved in material development and garment construction, reinforcing a practice rooted in craftsmanship, technical precision, and an evolving interpretation of menswear.
