The new collection by 404 Studio, “No me quedan Lágrimas”, which it is to present during the 080 Barcelona fashion show Autumn/Winter 2023, is inspired by the “quinqui” culture of Spain during the transition.
Through this collection, the label wants to raise our underworld culture by using fine materials such as Swarovski crystal or cotton and giving them a leading role.
During this period of deep disquiet and social instability of the 70s and 80s, the “quinqui” culture was the counterculture to the famous “Movida Madrileña”, which was praised by its contemporaries, not like the “quinqui” culture that was often isolated and denigrated.
Referencing the filmography of Eloy de la Iglesia, which includes the iconic films “Navajeros”, “Colegas”, “La estanquera de Vallecas”, and “El Pico”, the label uses this collection to allude to the famous song by Rumba Tres – No Te Quedan Lágrimas – and, with it, experience the atmosphere of the time with characters such as “El Jaro” and “Las Grecas” Tailoring is used to represent the character of Enrique San Francisco, and distressed denim to allude to “El Jaro” and “El Vaquilla”.
New fibres such as mohair are introduced, with cuts and shapes that are reminiscent of lingerie, in honour of the Mexican actress Isela Vega.
The hand-crocheted flowers, which are present in different forms throughout the collection and in the same material as that used to create Manila shawls, are used in homage and memory of Antonio and Lola Flores.
This season, 404 studio is collaborating with Swarovski to create applications exclusively designed for the collection. Pedro Gómez Madrid joins forces with the label in the creation of two exclusive, limited edition lumberjack shirts.
404 Studio is once again collaborating with Lavani Jewels with the design of an exclusive collection. Adidas was a very popular brand in Spain in the 70s and 80s, and the techniques of the collection are used on iconic Adidas clothing.
Sendra Boots and Navajas Roncero are contributors in the collection.
Also this season, 404 studio is joining forces with the artist from Valencia Marina Marco to create limited edition pieces hand painted by the artist.
