NAZZAL STUDIO

Al-Najah | النجاة

In collaboration between artist Jad Maq and designer Nazzal Studio, Al-Najah | النجاة is grounded in the raw, instinctive wisdom of Bedouin life in Bilad al-Sham. It studies how communities survived, created, and found meaning within one of the harshest landscapes on earth.

At its core, Al-Najah is an invitation to step away from noise and return to what endures: simplicity, craft, community, and presence. Working with leather, latex, silk, and metal, alongside natural pigments drawn from desert rocks, henna, powdered deer blood, and indigo, the collection restores creation to the hand. Materials are not decorative, they speak. When everything unnecessary is removed, spirit remains.

Each silhouette reflects choices born from necessity: the rope securing a tent, fire as protection, stars as direction, generosity as survival. Symbols throughout the collection draw from Bedouin facial tattoos in Jordan and Palestinian and Jordanian tatreez, embedding ancestral codes into contemporary form.

Al-Najah examines how survival shaped behavior, ritual, and philosophy. These instincts are translated into modern silhouettes that preserve purpose, clarity, and dignity. The work does not look back in nostalgia. It looks inward, honoring Bedouin heritage as a living guide, where survival is both physical and spiritual, and where the simplest truths carry the greatest power.

Nazzal Studio is a Palestinian fashion and art studio founded by Sylwia Nazzal and based in Jordan. Working at the intersection of garment making, performance, and material research, the studio uses fashion to examine identity, survival, and cultural memory.

With an academic foundation in politics and heritage, Sylwia approaches clothing as both artistic medium and cultural document. Her work is rooted in Palestinian history and resistance, translating ancestral references into contemporary form.

Founded in 2023, Nazzal Studio rejects mass production in favor of ethical, community based craftsmanship. The studio collaborates with refugee and local women artisans, sustaining traditional techniques while creating fair income and creative agency. Production becomes a form of solidarity.

Positioned as a studio rather than a conventional fashion label, each collection is developed through collaboration and experimentation. Every piece functions as both garment and statement, shaped by material research and cultural continuity. Through this practice, Nazzal Studio reframes fashion as archive, resistance, and living testimony.
