Catalan fashion is on the stage of the National Theatre of Catalonia (TNC) thanks to the 19th edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion that takes place from today until Friday 3rd of February. The childrenswear brand Boboli has been in charge to open the runway with the collection “Boboli Airlines”, for spring-summer 2017, as part of the see now-buy now new trend in which brands present “in time” collections that consumers can buy just after the fashion show, with no need to wait the traditional 6 months between seasons. A wanderlust spirit defines this new Boboli collection as it features from sailor stripes that remind us of the Mediterranean to tropical designs that take us to the Caribbean as well as ethnic prints that evoke Africa as well as bold colours and sheer fabrics that have a Palm Springs touch.

After Boboli, it’s been the turn of another childrenswear brand, CND by Cóndor, which has presented “Art Gallery”, for autumn-winter 2017-18. With the collaboration of the emblematic patisserie Escribà, the Catalan brand has introduced a staging to be enjoyed with all five senses. Inspired by artistic movements such as pop-art, art nouveau, impressionism or graffiti, CND by Cóndor shows a collection for boys and girls of clean lines and natural fabrics, comfortable structures and a warm color palette.

Once in the afternoon, the time has come to discover the new collections of the winners of the last edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion. In the first place, Blame, who won the National Award to Emerging Design, has presented “Panopticon” for autumn-winter 2017-18. Designer Pablo Puig Gomar gets inspiration from this concept regarding the state of uncertainty and paranoia that one can adopt thinking of being observed and under vigilance. This has traduced to a collection in black and white as well as some more colourful touches in bright hues like yellows and orange, and designs based on uniforms, where hoodies and wide necks stand out.
.
Afterwards, Miquel Suay has been the next on the runway. The designer won the National Award to the Best Collection at the 18th edition of 080 and now presents “23º 51’ 19’’”, a futuristic line inspired by the coordinates between the Earth and the Sun. With oversize volumes and details in the outerwear pieces of zippers and automatic buttons, the models seemed to emulate astronauts and evoked a man nostalgic of the future. As it’s usual in Suay, he mixes natural fabrics like wool with technical and metallic ones that are a nod to the technological inspiration behind the collection.

TCN has been in charge to bring the fashion shows to a close this first day of 080 Barcelona Fashion. The underwear and swimwear brand has also decided to present a “ready to buy” collection on the runway and has presented their proposal for spring-summer 2017, which exemplifies the evolution of the brand to a more complete option with many preêt-à-porter designs to wear on a daily basis.

After the show, the TNC has been home to the opening ceremony of the 19th edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion chaired by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, alongside the Catalan Minister of Business and Knowledge, Jordi Baiget, and the director of 080 Barcelona Fashion, Miquel Rodriguez. However, the star of the ceremony has been French designer Pierre Cardin, who has presented in Barcelona his musical show “Dorian Gray. Beauty has no mercy” at the Main Hall of TNC, as the main parallel activity of this 19th edition that vindicates that “fashion is also culture” as has signalled out Jordi Baiget.
.
In the morning, Pierre Cardin has presented his show to the media in a talk where he has admitted that “I owe everything to fashion” although, as he has explained, “I’ve been in theatre for 55 years, managing the Pierre Cardin space at Place de la Concorde in Paris, one of the most beautiful venues in the city”. According to the iconic designer and producer, “the theatre is a reflection of life and after life is reflected on the theatre”, while, regarding fashion, he has stated that “without fashion there wouldn’t be the concept of time, because fashion is consubstantial to the passing of time”.

During the ceremony in the afternoon, Generalitat of Catalonia has paid homage to Pierre Cardin and President Carles Puigdemont has awarded him a special prize. After that, the attendees have enjoyed the première of “Dorian Gray. Beauty has no mercy” and, finally, the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia has closed the ceremony with his speech. Tomorrow the action will continue at the National Theatre of Catalonia, that we’ll host in the morning the fashion shows by Loa by Lidia Aguilera, Lola Casademunt, Naulover and Txell Miras and, in the afternoon, the shows by Oscarleon, Josep Abril, Miriam Ponsa and Custo Barcelona.
