One of the aims of 080 Barcelona Fashion is to honour talent. Hence, in each edition there is the award ceremony to celebrate, on the one hand, the best emerging designer and, on the other hand, the best collection. In both cases, the winner sees how one of the pieces from their collection goes to the archives of the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona in a successful collaboration that will result in the renovation of the exhibition “Dressing the body” next May.
.
According to Silvia Ventosa, textile curator in the museum and co-curator of the aforementioned exhibition, “it’s very important that there is a selection committee for the pieces that enter our collection”. Therefore, the jury of every edition of 080 contribute in this expert selection, as other events in the design field, like the AdiFAD Awards, help them to introduce works from other disciplines.
.
Furthermore, regarding fashion, “it was crucial to get to the present time” in Silvia Ventosa’s words. Museu del Disseny has a comprehensive collection in fashion, accessories and textile with over 18.000 works but, as Ventosa states, “we lack a driving force to gather up current fashion”.  And here’s where the collaboration with 080 Barcelona Fashion makes full sense as the awarded designs reflect the creativity nowadays in Catalonia.
.
Apart from entering the archives of the museum, some of the designs from 080 are also on display in the exhibition “Dressing the body”, which from 2008 shows how the dress modifies the silhouette with pieces from 1550 to 2015. Regarding this, Silvia Ventosa reflects on the collaboration with 080, which she considers key “to show the designs to the public because, in the end, fashion shows are very limited. In contrast, we think that this can interest a much wider audience. And, in fact, it’s true because here we have visitors like kids, schools, elders, and thanks to this we can show fashion to everyone”.
.
Currently the heterogeneous visitors of Museu del Disseny can see some of creations born in the 080 Barcelona Fashion runway, like a braided vest with volume by Miriam Ponsa from her collection of January 2010 or a frock jacket with a twist by Josep Abril awarded in January 2014. From the next May, the exhibition will update the last room devoted to current fashion with designs from 080, which will bring some new concepts, as well as fitting into some of the actions on which the exhibition is based: increasing, reducing, elongating, profiling and revealing. Silvia Ventosa explains that the criteria to feature or not a design in the exhibition is that it is related to any of these actions, although 21st century fashion these “are much more blurred”.
.
For example, through a CARLOTAOMS design, Museu del Disseny will introduce the concept of agender fashion, while thanks to a piece by Krizia Robustella they will tackle profiling, reducing and revealing in the same design from the 21st century, when “things aren’t as defined”. Apart from the works in the last room of the exhibition, it’s important to highlight those designs from 080 that are on display in a dialogue with pieces from centuries aback, which show, according to Silvia Ventosa, that “fashion is cyclic and arbitrary”.
