A new boost to the commercial side of 080 Barcelona Fashion. This is the main novelty of the 19th edition of the Catalan catwalk that will take place from January 30th to February 3rd at the National Theatre of Catalonia (TNC) and that today has been presented to the media by the 080 Barcelona Fashion director and Trade, Craftsmanship and Fashion Consortium Manager (CCAM), Miquel Rodriguez.

Following the latest market trends, the Catalan fashion event introduces the see now, buy now, which allows us to buy what you’ve seen on the runway directly, without waiting the traditional six months between seasons. Childrenswear brand Boboli, fashion brands Custo Barcelona and Escorpion and guest designer ZE Garcia will present “in time” collections with their proposals for spring-summer 2017. In relation to this novelty, Miquel Rodriguez has explained that the 080 runway “couldn’t turn this new trend away” but he has wanted to clarify that “we only put the setting but the brands and designers who take part are the ones who make the decisions and in this edition five have agreed to join this initiative”.
Beyond the fashion shows, Rodriguez has pointed out that Manuel Bolaño will also join this new commercial trend with his presentation at the Open Area of his collection “Plan B” that he’ll show in an exhibition format.  Through this new line the creator reworks some of his signature atelier pieces, and they’ll be available during the week of show but only online.

The rest of brands and designers that will present their collection within the 080 Barcelona Fashion are: Aldomartins, Anel Yaos, Antonio Miro, Aubergin, Blame, Brain & Beast, CND by Cóndor, Daniel Rosa, ES Collection, Josep Abril, Justicia Ruano, Krizia Robustella, Lebor Gabala, Little Creative Factory, LOA by Lidia Aguilera, Lola Casademunt, Miquel Suay, Miriam Ponsa, Naulover, Oscarleon, Pablo Erroz, Pilar del Campo, Punto Blanco, Torras, Txell Miras, VM La Sibèria, Wom & Now and Yerse. You can check the full program here.

As for the selection of designers and brands, Miquel Rodriguez has wanted to highlight that “without leaving out the importance of womenswear, of which we have great representatives in the runway, 080 has always supported the presence of menswear”. Following this, Rodriguez has indicated that “in this edition we insist on our bet for menswear and we’ll host the first international fashion show of the underwear men’s brand ES Collection, an international revolution in the sector”.

Another important novelty of this 19th edition is the presence of the iconic French fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who will present in the opening day on January 30th, his production “Dorian Gray. Beauty has no mercy”, a musical show based on the famous Oscar Wilde novel. Miquel Rodríguez has wanted to highlight the presence of Pierre Carding, who he considers to “perfectly embody the idea that fashion is culture, which 080 vindicates actively and passively”. In addition, he has added that “it’s a great opportunity to pay homage to this great creator that has celebrated his 70 years in the industry recently”.

Regarding this connection between fashion and culture, Rodriguez has drawn attention to this edition’s setting, the National Theatre of Catalonia (TNC) and has explained that “despite that the space for the shows is smaller than in other occasions, the Open Area will be, more than ever, a place to live and enjoy the fashion world, the 080 experience”.  The Open Area is the space open to the general public who only need to ask for their invitation through this website and present it through a QR code and that in this 19th edition will be located in the TNC foyer and a close exterior area. Rodriguez has said that this space will also host the 080 TV Channel set, different exhibitions and big screens to follow the shows live.

Moreover, the Open Area will have a space for the 080 Fashion Market, with around 20 fashion and accessories pop-ups stores. “In this edition, to strengthen even more what’s happening inside and outside the runway many designers and brands that will walk on the catwalk will also be presents at the Fashion Market “ has stated the 080 Director. They are Oscarleon, Anel Yaos, Pilar del Campo, Blame, Daniel Rosa and Aubergin i and they’ll commercialize prior collections that one presented on the runway.

But 080 Barcelona Fashion isn’t only about business. In this 19th edition it reaffirms its goal to recognize the talent in the Catalan fashion scene and keep the two categories of awards: the Generalitat of Catalonia National Award to Emerging Design-Desigual and the Generalitat of Catalonia National Award to the Best Collection autumn-winter 2017-18. In addition, it also provides continuity to last edition’s initiative alongside the Catalan Cluster of Fashion (MODACC) of the MODACC Award to recognize those Catalan brands that export and have an international presence.

Within the parallel activities program, Miquel Rodriguez has announced that on Wednesday 1st of February will take place the opening of the H&M Barcelona Flagship, located on Passeig de Gracia, and that will be one of the biggest stores worldwide. It’s a brand new concept of store, which will offer an updated shopping experience with all the brand’s collections. The shop will be open to the general public from Friday 3rd of February.

Moreover, there are two more parallel activities that stand out which boost the business side of the 080. On the one hand, the TNC will be home to the third edition of 080 Fashion Showroom, the professional space of exhibition and sale that boosts the internationalization of the participant brands and that will take place throughout the week. Organized alongside MODACC, this third edition will have around 20 brands, some of which will also be present on the runway like Escorpion, Punto Blanco, Wom&Now, Loa by Lidia Aguilera and Yerse. Like the other two editions, an inverse trade mission will be part of this initiative and it will bring around 15 international buyers to increase the business and commercial opportunities in the exterior market of the brands that take part. On the other hand, on Thursday 2nd Barcelona Fashion Summit will take place. It’s a professional forum that brings together the main executives of the fashion industry and that on this occasion will focus on the future challenges of the fashion industry.

Finally, within today’s presentation, Rodriguez has also pointed out the sponsors of this 19th edition. Moritz is once again the main sponsor, reaffirming its support to Catalan fashion and culture. Along with the Catalan beer’s company, there are other sponsors: Redken (official hairdresser), La Roca Village, Movistar (technological partner), Fever-Tree, Westwing (official home and living decoration), Gramona (official wine and cava), MVIPS (official cars and transfers), Rowenta (official ironing, clothing and haircare) and OI Realtor Magazine. As collaborator brands we have MAC Cosmetics (official make-up), CND Beauty (official manicure), Bijou Brigitte (accessories), Solan de Cabras (official water) and BCN Brand (uniforms).
